Interior Styles

I would like to talk about modern styles of interior. What they are.

In modern styles of interior highlight:

  • Minimalism
  • Scandinavian style
  • Loft
  • High-tech
  • Techno
  • Art deco
  • Eco-style
  • Retro-style
  • Pop Art
  • Boho Style
  • Kitsch
  • Eclecticism

All these styles can be mixed and the boundaries between them are quite conventional. You can combine different attributes and create a unique design.

In this article we will talk about minimalism. What is it?

Minimalism

Pure minimalism in the interior is rarely used. Although visually minimalist is the ideal style for small rooms, in practice it does not reach the functionality. But minimalism is the foundation for other modern styles. That is why it goes first, i.e. the basic finishing of almost all the actual styles of the interior is done as in minimalism, and then the decor, furniture and light are formalized in other directions. Minimalism in interior design, contrary to popular belief, is not when little.

Minimalism is when enough. It’s also comfortable, functional and beautiful. The origins of minimalism are the Japanese style, which entered Western culture after the war. The influence of constructivism is important. The main principles of these currents are strictness, geometry and correspondence of the external appearance of the building to its functions.

The main features of the style:

  • using natural materials
  • plenty of free space
  • functional furniture
  • geometry of shapes
  • closed storage systems
  • monochrome color gamut
  • large windows
  • hidden light sources
  • refusal of unnecessary decor

The walls – white paint. The floor – parquet or laminate. The ceiling is smooth white, often without lamps at all. The style doesn’t accept the presence of accessories that serve only for beauty. Every item in the interior must have a specific function, otherwise it doesn’t belong here. As decorations can be used modern unobtrusive paintings (more often abstraction).

In minimalism preference is given to natural materials: stone, wood, leather, linen fabrics, etc.

Often they are not processed, placing emphasis on rough texture (brick, concrete, plaster)

The use of metal makes the interior more modern – look favorable metal legs of chairs, countertops, and racks. In the perfect interior, minimalist style furniture occupies only 20% of space. Its main features are geometry of shapes, simple natural materials and functionality. The combination of several functions in one piece of furniture (sofa-bed, table-transformer) helps not to overwhelm the space. For the same purpose, the room is often equipped with built-in equipment. Great attention is paid to storage systems. Best of all, if they are hidden – only a few really worthwhile things remain to be seen, reflecting the personality of the host. For example, the ideal solution for the bedroom will be a spacious wardrobe, hidden in the wall.

A lot of attention is paid to natural light. Large open windows are a great way to create a spacious air space. In extreme cases, use horizontal or vertical blinds.

Today, minimalism is more of a philosophy, a worldview. Escaping from the accelerating pace of life, modern man seeks to create an unfinished bright space full of calm and harmony. The interior in minimalism style copes with this task perfectly.
